Mini Grilled Cheese Hearts (Printable)

Bite-sized grilled cheese sandwiches cut into heart shapes, ideal for festive occasions or fun meals.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 6 slices soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread

→ Cheese

02 - 6 slices cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese

→ Butter

03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

# How-To Steps:

01 - Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out two hearts from each bread slice to create 12 bread hearts. Repeat with cheese slices to create 12 cheese hearts.
02 - Place one cheese heart between two bread hearts to form mini sandwiches.
03 - Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each assembled sandwich.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches buttered side down and cook for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crisp.
05 - Transfer to a serving plate and serve immediately while warm.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They are impossibly cute but take zero special skills to pull off perfectly
  • The bite size means everyone can try without committing to a whole sandwich
02 -
  • Press firmly but gently when cutting the hearts to avoid crushing the bread structure
  • Medium heat prevents burning the butter before the cheese has time to melt properly
03 -
  • Save the bread scraps for breadcrumbs or croutons to reduce waste
  • A small offset spatula helps flip these tiny sandwiches without breaking them apart
